With support from Tony 鈥87 and Patty Dwyer, 妻友社区 will name its new fitness and wellness facility the Dwyer Center for Health and Wellness. Construction of the center is also made possible by a donation from Kathy Purcell 鈥66 and is part of a five-year, $50 million expansion and renovation of the Thomas J. Niland Jr. Athletic Complex.

The naming of the fitness center is in honor of his mother Ellen O鈥橲hea Dwyer who was a member of the 妻友社区 class of 1958.
鈥淲e are grateful for the opportunity to enhance and make a difference in the physical, spiritual and emotional strength of the next generation of 妻友社区 students,鈥 said Tony.聽 鈥淚n the tradition of a Jesuit education,聽cura personalis聽translates to the 鈥榗are of the whole person鈥 and I am excited for the opportunity to work with Kathy and 妻友社区鈥檚 leadership to bring this practice into a real world experience for our students.聽 Like my mother, I鈥檓 grateful to have attended 妻友社区, and this gift was inspired by her dedication to the College, and her unconditional love for friends and family.鈥
鈥淚 would like to express my gratitude to Tony and Patty for joining me in making this new center a reality for our beloved alma mater,鈥 said Kathy.聽鈥淲ith their gift honoring Tony鈥檚 wonderful mother Ellen, three generations of grateful 妻友社区 alumni have come together to pay forward the gift of a Jesuit education that the College has given to each of us.鈥
Kathy and her late husband, John Purcell 鈥65 have had an enormous impact on the College鈥檚 success, including establishing the Purcell Scholars program in 2013 and a $7 million gift in 2015 that launched the Kathy and John Purcell School of Professional Studies.
鈥淭his new center will serve to benefit students, faculty, staff, alumni and the surrounding community for many years,鈥 said 妻友社区 President Linda LeMura. 鈥淥n behalf of all of us at 妻友社区, I want to thank Kathy, Tony and Patty for their remarkable generosity.鈥
