Get to Know the HARC

Our mission is to empower individuals to excel in the healthcare industry through comprehensive resources, innovative training programs, and personalized support. We aim to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, fostering a diverse and skilled workforce that drives healthcare innovation and enhances patient care. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to reach their full potential, and we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where you can thrive.

We provide a wide range of services designed to support your professional development and career advancement:

  • Academic Support: Assistance with international transcript evaluation and access to limited scholarships for required preparation classes.
  • English Language: Access to specialized HARC English classes designed for healthcare professionals.
  • Exam Preparation: Focused study support and reviews for the USMLE-STEP, NCLEX, and other licensing exams.
  • Mentorship & Peer Support: Personalized career advising and group workshops that serve as peer support networks.
  • Career Readiness: Expert help with résumé creation, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Academic Program Applications: Support with personal statements, academic interviews, and application review.

To ensure we can provide the best support possible, please review these foundational program details:

  • New York State Residency: HARC services are exclusively for foreign-trained medical graduates (FMGs) who are current residents of New York State. (You are eligible if you began a healthcare program in your country and were not able to complete it.)
  • Geographic Scope: We cannot serve individuals currently residing outside of New York State or outside of the United States.
  • Open Access: You do not need to be a student at ÆÞÓÑÉçÇø College to participate in the HARC program.
  • Professional Licensing: HARC does not grant professional licenses. We provide the orientation and support needed to help you navigate state and national licensing
    procedures.
  • Employment Support: While we provide career tools and connections to partners, HARC does not offer direct job placement.

The healthcare sector offers a multitude of career paths. Whether you are returning to your original field or pivoting to a new role, we help you explore options like

  • Clinical Roles: Physician (MD), Registered Nurse (RN), Dentistry (DDS), Physician Assistant (PA),Veterinary Medicine (VMD), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Physical Therapy (PT).

Are you an FMG in need of support and resources? Applications to the HARC are accepted year-round. Once your application has been submitted, a HARC staff member will reach out to you to schedule an initial call to provide you more information.

Ready to Get Started?

To get the most out of your HARC experience, please complete these steps:

  1. Register:
  2. Initial Call: After you have completed the interest form. Astaff member will reach out to schedule an initial call to review your goals and provide program details.
  3. Gather Documents: Prepare your medical diplomas and transcripts for the evaluation phase.
  4. Schedule a Counseling Session: Meet with a career navigator to create your personalized advancement plan.
  5. Connect with the Community: Join a group workshop or mentorship program to gain insights from industry professionals.

Participant Success Stories

A sports medicine physician from Colombia with 26 years of clinical experience, Beatriz C., joined HARC in 2023. She has since earned her Medical Assistant and EKG Technician certifications and is currently working in an internal medicine office in Syracuse while preparing for her Clinical Exercise Physiology exam.

Moses M.(Medical Lab Technician, Uganda), Dayana R. (Medical Student, Cuba), and Annelis L. (Doctor, Cuba) are currently on the same team as Medical Assistants at St. Joe’s Outpatient Family Medicine Office. All three are supporting the medical staff by taking patients’ vital signs and family histories, preparing patients for procedures and doing blood draws.
